Story
The CASA Alliance was formed to bring you the education you need to know, but are not getting, and to form alliances to bring truth, transparency, and advocacy in the spirit of bringing change and healing through collective voice.
The CASA Alliance was founded by Vicki MacHale, a 30+ year veteran of the community association industry who has seen every side of the system. Vicki began her career as an activities director for an HOA, later managing onsite operations for master-planned communities. She went on to become a Division Manager, move into executive leadership, and eventually an owner/partner.
Along the way, she became an educator for every level of California specific certification and designation curriculum, and a featured columnist for Vision Magazine. She also served on her own HOA board for over 10 years, and three elected terms on the California Association of Community Managers (CACM) Board of Directors. Twice, she was the manager at the center of precedent-setting case law — Friars Village v. Hansing and Lee v. Silveria — experience that taught her how to fight when it matters.

Vicki was honored with the 2015 Community Association Institute (CAI) Award for Training of the Year, Board Bootcamp, and was nominated in 2017 in the same category. She served as an expert panelist on numerous CACM & CAI education panels. In 2018, after seeing the direction of industry organizations, she voluntarily resigned all of her designations from CACM and did not renew her CAI designations. She then semi-retired and began her own consulting company, which allowed her to not only stay current, but also to see operations from many different vantage points.

In 2004, Vicki began tracking the growing wave of acquisitions and corporate consolidation creeping into the HOA sector, even the first publicly traded management company. She raised early warnings about the risks of private equity and monopolistic practices, including several articles which appeared in Vision Magazine. Today, two decades later, her concerns have materialized, and then some.
Behind the scenes, homeowners and HOAs are being impacted through hidden revenue streams. Managers are collapsing under mountains of work. Service providers are being edged out while alliances build. It is my belief that management contract fees are being kept artificially low to squeeze out small firms so that they will sell to larger companies. There have been several lawsuits, and yet few are speaking out. Isn't this information that should be disclose? Major trade organizations remain silent, moving forward with business -as- usual operations. CASA exists to change that. We believe the only way to protect communities, managers, and service providers is through education, transparency, and collective voice. As individuals, we can be silenced. As a united movement, we cannot.
